Previous experience
TimberED Services has tested thousands of pieces of sawn, round, and manufactured timber products. Previous contracts have included the testing and analysis of Australian softwoods, hardwoods, glulam, LVL, recycled timber, and some timber from overseas. The company no longer has access to its own test facilities, but is available to supervise testing at other locations around Australia.
TimberEd Services participates in the development of Australian and international grading standards, and regularly attends meetings that discuss current trends and developments in timber grading. We have an understanding of the emerging grading technologies and have experience in demonstrating their application with specific products.
TimberED services has been involved with Australian timber producers in the the development, monitoring and improvement of quality control systems for structural timber products.
The company was also involved with A3P (Australian Paper Products and Plantation Industry Council) in the preparation of the 'Guidelines for Verification of Structural Timber Products' (2008), The document was developed in response to the growing awareness in the timber industry of the need to be accountable with respect to solid wood structural properties and the Trade Practices Act. The Guidelines are intended for use by producers, and describe the general principles for verification of structural properties of sawn timber using any method of grading.
TimberED Services has investigated several structural timber failures, including failures in timber balconies, decking, trusses, beams and power poles. Geoff appeared in court in some of these cases as an expert witness. The company is familiar with Australian design and performance standards and has experience in the operations of the timber and construction industries.
