Geoff Boughton

Geoff graduated with 1st class honours in Civil Engineering in 1976 from UWA, completed a MEngSci in 1979 at UWA, and his PhD (James Cook University) in 1989. He has worked as a design engineer and a construction engineer for the Public Works Department (WA) and as a research fellow at the James Cook Cyclone Structural Testing Station (Townsville).
In 1986, he joined the tenured staff at Curtin University as a senior lecture and has lectured in many aspects of structural design. For a period, he acted as the head of school and has been involved in a number of program reviews. Geoff’s services were used in a consultative capacity on a number of occasions by industry, and for four periods by the United Nations.
In 1991, Geoff worked in Canada, firstly with Prof Borg Madsen in Vancouver at the University of British Columbia, on improvements to machine grading, and then at the University of Western Ontario on wind loading studies. The experience was invaluable in developing an international perspective for his work.
In 1996, Geoff was asked by the timber industries to establish a National Timber Education Program to support university teaching of timber-related subjects. The program was started while Geoff was on secondment from Curtin.
Geoff is currently an Adjunct Associate Professor and lecturer in Timber Engineering at Curtin University of Technology, Perth, Western Australia

Debbie started work at Curtin University as a research assistant in 1997, concentrating primarily on data collection and analysis for timber testing programs. She joined TimberED Services as a foundation staff member, and her current work includes data collection and analysis for research and consultancy work in both the timber and emergency management areas, and activities directed toward the support functions of the National Timber Education Program. Debbie also prepares reports and presentations for all aspects of the company's work. She has jointly authored and presented several papers on various activities of the National Timber Education Program and research into timber grading.

Confidentiality
Where necessary a confidentiality agreement can be entered into to protect the confidentiality of aspects of the work brought exclusively to the contract by the client.
Intellectual property
Where the work is expected to produce significant intellectual prperty, agreements can be negotiated on the rights to the property.
Quotations
TimberED Services is a small company with low overheads. It has a reputation of delivering quality services on time and within budget.
Work can be quoted on a lump-sum basis or as an hourly rate. Special rates can be negotiated for large jobs. Provision is normally sought for monthly progress payments on larger work, and payment is requested within 14 days of invoice. Travel and accommodation is normally separated in the quotation.
The company has substantial professional Indemnity insurance and carries public liability and workers compensation insurance.
